My name is Karla Faehnrich and I am the high school and 8th grade math teacher at Verdigre Public School. This will be my eleventh year teaching high school math and my fifth year teaching at Verdigre. I live in Springfield, SD with my husband, Charlie, and our three sons, Caden (8) and Cort (5), and Crete (2). We live on the edge of town where my husband trains, sells and shoes horses.
I was born and raised in Springfield, and many of my family members still live in that area today. I grew up on a farm with five siblings, 4 sisters and 1 brother, where we farmed and raised cattle. I attended Bon Homme High School in Tyndall, SD and graduated in 2004. Going on to college, I spent a year and a half in Brookings at SDSU as an Animal Science major before deciding to change my major to Mathematics. I then transferred to the University of South Dakota where I graduated with a Bachelors degree in Mathematics Education in 2009. I started my first teaching job in the fall of 2009 in Thackerville, OK. Why Oklahoma, you ask? Newly married in June of that year, my husband and I decided to travel and see what life was like in the heart of horse country. We loved the country and the people, but moved back after a year to be closer to family and start our own family. I began teaching in Wagner, SD and continued there for the five years. Our first son, Caden, was born in February of 2011, and our second son, Cort, almost three years later in December of 2013, and Crete in December of 2016.

I enjoy being outdoors and spending time with my family. Reading and DIY house projects take up any free time I have when I am not busy keeping three boys fed and clean. During the summer, we love going to the river and spending time with friends. My husband team ropes, and we enjoy spending time with him and helping with the horses. Our boys enjoy riding their ponies and helping their dad and our neighbors with chores.
Teaching in Verdigre was exactly what I was looking for at this point in my teaching career. The community and school are outstanding and I look forward to getting to spend another great year with the students, staff and parents as the 2019-2020 school year gets underway! |
